10 THINGS ABOUT FüD

8:10 PM

I'm a carnivore but I am beginning to realize that Vegan dishes are the way to go when it's hot outside because they aren't as heavy as meat dishes.

1)  Food
We started with NACHITOS, which is a small bowl of their larger Nachos.  It was  freaking good.  I had no idea that Cashew Nacho Cheese and El Cream could taste no differently.

Our dishes started filing out.
JACK REUBEN - Jack fruit and sauerkraut.  The texture was slightly off on this day but still very good.

MAC CURRY - Macaroni in Curried Cashew Cheese.
I didn't taste any macaroni.
The texture was much better when adding in the side of cucumber and onions, which could have been even better if the cucumbers and onions were diced instead of chopped.  Since the pieces were so large they kept falling out of the sandwich.
The mustard is heavy in this dish and almost over-powering.

RAINBOW TACO WRAP
A very beautiful and huge taco wrap.
The fillings were so large that my husband decided not to use the collard as a wrap and just forked the fillings into his mouth.

Surprisingly, I was very impressed with all the dishes we ordered.

2)  Atmosphere / Vibe
FüD gives off a very hippie vibe.  I joked that they didn't take credit cards because they don't like plastic and my girlfriend said, 'Didn't you see the sign?' as she pointed to a "Cash Only" sign posted on the door.  Oops, no I did not.  You can see the small kitchen in the back of the restaurant, which I like.  The table was wonky which is a pet peeve of my husband.  Thankfully there were flyers near our window table so he was able to remedy the table shake, saving me from hearing about it the entire time.

While some of the decor choices are beautiful if on their own, but together it's very incohesive.  Each wall doesn't match the other or tell a story.

3)  Service
Nice server but she didn't keep our waters filled in the small glasses that were provided.
During lunch, they wouldn't allow my friend to order take-out because they were so busy

4)  Sources
They make all food from scratch and try to source locally when possible.

5)  Drinks
Perhaps the weirdest thing at FüD was the water.  It didn't have ice and was warm.
Their website say that they use filtered and fluoride-free water.

6)  People
The clientele didn't look particular weird, although I'd say we were the most mainstream people in the restaurant.  There were couples and families dining.

7)  Menu
They mostly serve sandwiches, nachos, tacos and salads.

8)  Price
I paid about $7 - $9 for each dish.  We each purchased 2 dishes a person and left satisfied.  Thankfully, I had enough cash on-hand, since FüD does not accept credit cards.

9)  Dining
Indoor and outdoor seating is available.  The outdoor tables are tiny metal tables situated on a hill on the sidewalk.  My girlfriend said that her service while sitting outside during a previous visit was not that good.

10)  Location / Parking
Heirloom is tucked in the corner at 17th &Summit in the West Side neighborhood of Kansas City. The area is quaint and is in walking distance from several little food establishments like Westside Local, The Little Freshie, and Fervere.  Stop by WestSide Storey for a fresh t-shirt!
