10 Files That I Can't Live Without!
5:26 AM
I am a little O.C.D. and love my lists and documents! Here are my favorites!
My boss gave me this idea, that I thought I'd share. She keeps a timeline of events through her life. She uses a spreadsheet on her hard drive. I keep my timeline stored in Google Drive (formerly Google Docs) so that I can access / update it from anywhere.
Basically, the years go down the left side column and the months go across the top row.
My sister recently had her first offspring and she uses it as an easy and quick method to journal his first and major life events. Yes, she can pull out his baby book, but this can be updated anywhere that she has internet access!
Here's an example life timeline that I created in Google Docs:
2.) MEDICAL HISTORY & MEDICATIONS
I keep a list of medical history on Google Drive as well.

Last fall, my mom was over at the new house with me helping me cut drywall. She fell and broke her arm and I took her to the E.R. The nurse asked me about my mom's medications, but I was unable to provide the nurse with any helpful details. This way if anything happens, (knock on wood) I will always have a current list of her medications and health history if I have my phone with me.
Here's an example of Medical History.
BTW - She's fine now! My mom bit through her lip when she fell and the nurses and doctor at Menorah Medical Center were just phenomenal to her! They spoiled her! I loved that they gave her better care than I could!
3.) PACKING LIST
I LOVE to travel! I have always used a digital travel list, but thanks to Pinterest, I was able to make it look better! I couldn't live without it! I just digitally check off everything when it's packed.
4.) 101 in 1001
The concept for "101 in 1001" is that you come up with a list of 101 tasks to complete in 1001 days (2.74 years). I originally learned about it from Jessica Claire's blog, back when you had to make an old fashioned list. Yep, you guessed it right! I store my lists on Google Drive for convenience as well! Now there are schmancy websites dedicated to helping you create your own 101 in 1001, like the Day Zero Project. For some reason these are much more attainable goals than New Years' Resolutions. I feel like NYRs are almost destined to fail. 101 in 1001 worked for me! On 2/6/2008, my number 1 item was to Travel to Europe (Italy or France) and on 4/29/2010, my goal was realized when I touched down at Schipol Airport in the Netherlands!
5.) House Measurements
We're still in the process of remodeling a fixer-upper we purchased 2 years ago. What has helped us tremendously has been keeping an only spreadsheet (on - YOU GUESSED IT - Google Drive) with all of our house measurements so that we can quickly reference how much material we need to buy.
6.) Owners Manuals & Instructions
We try and find digital copies of owner manuals for our major purchases so that we can easily find details. Plus who wants to save paper manuals. It's clutter, it has to go!
7.) Finances
I keep a spreadsheet with all of the digital receipts I get from my online purchases.
8.) Google Maps
While I know this isn't exactly a document, anytime I read in a magazine or hear on t.v. about a place that I want to go, I look the place up in Google Maps and save it to a "My Places" Map that I've created for all of the cities that I want to or will most likely visit.
9.) ITINERARY
When we go on trips I create an itinerary to help keep all of the moving parts on the same page. I share the itinerary with our families, the people who are taking us to and picking us up from the airports, and key players. The itinerary not only keeps our schedule, but it also hold key emergency contact information should anything happen.
10.) PICTURES!
Many people suggest taking photocopies of your important credit cards and driver's licenses. I disagree. I take photos of my important cards/passports/driver's licenses, but this is the ONE time that I do not back up to the cloud. Even though I understand that I can keep my photos private and non-searchable, I still am not okay with distributing this data into the world (encrypted or not). For now, this data lives on my hard drive.
